8th Grade Formal Pictures

National Junior Honor Society Induction Information
When: May 23, 2013
Where: West Lake Middle School Auditorium
Time: 6:00 pm -8:00 pm
Who: Inductees and current NJHS members
Attire: Business Casual; Dress, skirt or dress pants for girls - Shirt with a collar and pants for boys.
No jeans, no shorts, no t-shirts, no gym shirts, no sweat pants, no strapless tops....appropriate attire for an honor ceremony.
Hero Packs
The Wildcat Service Club is planning our final service project for the school year, and we could use your help! We will be creating "Hero Packs" to show support and encouragement for the families of deployed National Guard members here in North Carolina. We'll be collecting items for the packs from May 6th to May 24th. There are collection boxes in some core classrooms, or you can bring donations to Mrs. Stiers (Guidance) or Mrs. Panagi (8/1). WLMS Yearbook Cash Preorders
Cash pre-orders for the 2012-2013 WLMS Yearbook began on Monday, April 29, 2013. Please bring cash or a check made payable to WLMS in the amount of $45 to the cafeteria before school.

Dress Code/Electronics Policy
West Lake has a set of dress guidelines and we also follow the guidelines of WCPSS Board Policy number 1-5 which states "students are expected to adhere to standards of dress and appearance that are compatible with an effective learning environment. Presenting a bodily appearance or wearing clothing which is disruptive, provocative, revealing, profane, vulgar, offensive or obscene, or which endangers the health or safety of the student or others is prohibited."

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT CEREMONY TIME
WHEN / WHERE: The WLMS PTSA Academic Achievement Ceremonies will be held April 16 (Track 2), April 18 (Track 1), April 25 (Track 4) and May 24 (Track 3). The ceremonies will run from 8:15am – 9:15am in the WLMS Auditorium and a light reception will follow. Please put this date and time on your calendar as you will not want to miss out on this wonderful memory!
WHO / WHAT: If you have a child / student who has made the PTSA Academic Honors List (formally Honor Roll and who received "A" or "AB" report cards / no "C’s") any of the first 3 quarters of the 2012/13 year or won / placed in a competition via a WLMS teacher program / club or PTSA led program, you and your child / student will be invited to attend.
HOW: VOLUNTEERS (PTSA or Non-PTSA) are all welcome and NEEDED in order to make this program a success. Please take the time to go to SignUpGenius and select an opportunity to be involved in what will undoubtedly be a high-light of your students middle school years! Communities in Schools - EOG Camps
Beginning Friday, April 19, 2013 our learning centers will offer EOG Camp -- intensive review sessions for students in grades 3 through 8 -- on 4 consecutive weekends, ending on Sunday, May 12, 2013. Sessions are designed to assist students with developing the skills needed to improve their results.

The First Transfer application includes two applications in one. Families that want to request assignment to their calendar option school (transportation provided), or to any another school (no transportation provided) may submit a request during this period. Parent Academy/Academia de Padres - Free Classes/Clases Gratis
The Winter/Spring Parent Academies begin January 15, 2013. We are very excited to offer a variety of workshops presented by the WCPSS subject matter experts (see attachments). The objective is to provide parents with the tools needed to support their children's academic and social success.
