April 17th is the last day to order yearbooks online. There will be a very limited quality available after yearbooks arrive on campus, but don't take chances! Go to Yearbook Order Center and use Order #10561.

Single Subject Acceleration

Single Subject Acceleration is the practice of assigning a student to a higher-grade level than typical, given the student's age, for the purpose of providing access to appropriately challenging learning opportunities in either Language Arts or Mathematics. Parents may nominate their children. West Lake Middle School will begin taking nominations on April 7, 2015. Find your track time below.

  • Track 1 April 7- April 20, 2015
  • Track 2 April 15- April 28, 2015
  • Track 3 April 10- May 18, 2015

West Lake Testing

Proctors needed for ACCESS, EOG, EOC and North Carolina Final Exams. The end of year testing which includes EOG, EOC, and NCFE are listed below by track.

  • Track 1                       May 15- May 21
  • Tracks 2, 3, and 4       June 15- June 19

If you are interested in proctoring for any or all of these tests, please contact the school at (919) 662-2900.

Who can proctor? Any WCPSS employee or volunteer who has successfully completed the volunteer application process and is 18 or over can proctor. You can complete the volunteer application at any WCPSS on Mondays - be sure to add West Lake to the list of schools where you are willing to volunteer. Proctors must attend a test administration training session and agree to fulfill the duties described to assure ethical and fair test administration. The only restriction is that you can't proctor on your child's grade and track.

Please contact the school if you can help us with our testing.

STEM Spectacular

On the evening of April 9th, MCHS will host a floating event from 6:00 - 7:30, open to the community, with a SEE, LEARN, DO explanation of STEM. We hope attendees will appreciate seeing examples of STEM projects from our students (representative across all curricular areas), learning from our students, local businesses, and through the support of visiting NCSU students and staff, and by engaging (do) in challenges and activities that model the Engineering Design Cycle and encourage creativity and collaboration.

Winter Weather Make-Up Days

Wake County Public School System schools will use the days listed below to recover lost instructional time caused by snow and icy road conditions during the 2014-15 school year. The days below were chosen to provide as much academic benefit as possible after losing eight school days to ice and snow relatively late in the year. School leaders recognize that these makeup days will create scheduling conflicts for some and trust that parents will make the best decisions for their families.

Digital Safety

Our school is educating students and parents about digital safety. We have a simple message borrowed from the Institute for Responsible Online and Cell Phone Communications -- Everything you do with your digital device is Public and Permanent. If we approach all use of digital devices with this digital consciousness, we will keep ourselves and our children safe. Please check out our Digital Safety page.

Earning Credit by Demonstrated Mastery

Under the state's new Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM) option, uniquely qualified students may 'test out' or bypass a course if they have already mastered the content.

The program provides another opportunity for students to learn new content, to challenge themselves with the next level of rigor in a subject, and even graduate early. This option is not designed to replace existing accelerated pathways, such as the Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG) program at WCPSS.

School Bus Information

This is a message from the Wake County Public School System for families at year-round schools who ride the bus.
Your student's school bus may serve both year round and traditional calendar schools.

You may notice your bus arrives a little later once traditional calendar schools open on Monday, August 25th.

We want you to know that arrival times will improve as traditional calendar school families become familiar with new routines. Please know that our ridership grows dramatically with the start of the traditional calendar schools and the steps we put in place this year are geared to improve efficiency and increase on-time delivery of students to school and home.

We provide Live Bus Updates online at www.wcpss.net/transportation. Choose your school to see news for your bus.

Thanks for your support of the Wake County Public School System.

Dress Code/Electronics Policy

West Lake has a set of dress guidelines and we also follow the guidelines of WCPSS Board Policy number 1-5 which states "students are expected to adhere to standards of dress and appearance that are compatible with an effective learning environment. Presenting a bodily appearance or wearing clothing which is disruptive, provocative, revealing, profane, vulgar, offensive or obscene, or which endangers the health or safety of the student or others is prohibited."

Home Base Parent Portal

The Home Base Parent Portal is your way to make sure you can keep up with how your child is doing in school. You can see grades, missed assignments, etc. You can come to the school to sign up. Please make sure to bring your photo ID. Our office hours are from 7 AM to 3:30 PM. If a student has parents who do not live at the same address, the pass code will be given to the parent whose address matches that of the student.

If you have not yet submitted the form for getting a HomeBase login, please choose an option below:

  • If you can come to the school to present a photo ID, choose this form.
  • If you cannot come to the school, you will need to have this form notarized and sent in with your child.

This process has had some issues, so if you are not able to log in, there will be instructions on the Home Base page that will tell you who to contact. These issues cannot be corrected at the school.

For more information about HomeBase, please click here.
