We hope that everyone will visit our Book Fair! The books are being provided by Scholastic Book Fairs and will include a variety of popular books as well as bookmarks, pencils, pens, journals, and many other fun items. Most book prices range from $2.99 to 16.99 and most fun items range from $.75 to $12.99. This is a great time to purchase items for the upcoming holiday season! Checks should be made payable to WLMS PTSA . A $5.00 service fee will be charged on all returned checks. Sales tax will not be charged during the fair; however, all sales are final. All proceeds from the book fair will go towards the purchase of books for the WLMS Media Center .

Your student is scheduled to visit the Book Fair through their language arts class. Students may also stop by before and after school. Special passes will be given to teachers for students who need to make brief visits at the end of class to purchase items. Anyone who purchases at least one book per visit may enter a drawing for a $20.00 shopping spree in the Book Fair. One winner per track will be selected – the Track 1 winner will be selected November 25th and the winners for Tracks 2 – 4 will be selected on December 7.

The Book Fair will be open before and after school so that parents may shop and/or help students select books . Parents are also welcome to shop during the day. You will need to sign in at the office to obtain a visitor’s badge if you plan to shop during school hours. During the event, we also invite you to help build our classroom libraries by purchasing books and donating them to your child’s class or team through our Teacher Wish List program! You may also purchase gift certificates for teachers and students to use at the book fair. Please review the information in the flyer sent home about our book fair gift certificates for purchase as well as our One for Books program!

ONE for BOOKS Donation Program

Please visit the Book Fair! This year, one of our goals is to put more books into the hands of students and on the shelves of classroom libraries!

We call it ONE for BOOKS.

Please donate $1.00 and sign the BOOK SLIP with your child’s name or your name. All signed Book Slips will be displayed at our book fair. All of the money collected goes directly to purchasing more books for our school.

Scholastic will match monetary donations raised with a donation of up to one million books to three non-profit organizations dedicated to helping kids and families in need. They include: Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc., National Center for Family Literacy and the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.

If possible, please send your dollar and signed Book Slip back to school with your child. On behalf of the students and teachers of West Lake Middle , THANK YOU!

Wednesday Early Release Teacher Time

During the early release time, teachers at West Lake Middle are very busy. They are monitoring student progress by through looking at data and class performance as the year progresses. Core teachers are sharing information with other team members, support staff, elective teachers and health and PE teachers. In addition, they are developing strategies to aid student learning, engagement, and achievement.

SPAN (Student Parent Access Network)

As many may know, we are implementing SPAN school wide this year. This program will allow you to access your child's grades, as well as interim reports. Please keep in mind, that as this process begins, it may take several days before grades are entered into the system. We believe that this is a great opportunity for you to keep up with your child's academic progress, as well as a tool to drive conversations with your child's teachers, in an effort to ensure that your child maximizes his/her success. Keep in mind that only those parents who completed the SPAN form in person or with a notary will have digital access to a SPAN account. If you have any questions about SPAN, or if we can assist you in any way, please contact the school at: 662-2900 or email sam607@wcpss.net.

Parents of track 1 and track 2 students will digitally receive interims the week of August 3rd, while the parents of track 3 and 4 students will digitally recieve interims the week of August 24.

Information about Year Round Schools

WCPSS operates its year-round schools as multi-track, year-round schools. This means that the students in the school are organized into four groups or "tracks". Each track follows a different schedule. The schedules are staggered so that at any given time, three of the tracks are in school and one track is out on break. This system is a "45/15 Schedule", meaning the pupils are in school for 45 days, then off for 15, through the year.

Planning Guides for Middle School

These pages are designed to help you understand your child's report card so that you can play an active, informed role in their education.

Information about Swine Influenza

As is the case with any communicable disease, the Wake County Public School System is in close contact with Wake County Human Services regarding the current public health concern of Swine Flu (H1N1 Flu).

Connections Curriculum Brochures

These brochures provide overviews of the Wake County Public School System's instructional programs for grades kindergarten through eight.
